Object description: This item is the first printed version of the Bible. It is written in Latin, composed by three-volumes and arranged in 42-line columns. It is also named Gutenberg Bible after its printer. Today 49 Gutenberg Bibles are known to exist, but of these only 21 are complete like the one proposed here, belonging to the Library of Congress.
Why we considered it: This Bible version is the first complete book extant in the West, therefore it has a great relevance in our theme. Its printing introduced the world to the potentialities of movable types, making finally possible to create copies of manuscripts in a fairly fast and economic way (compared to the previous methods).
Standard used: The Library of Congress offers multiple metadata standard annotations: the main is in MARC and in addition are given the MARCXML, MODS and DublinCore records of the item. It will be provided a brief presentation and alignment of these standards.
